About us

Who we are

Behind the Uferlos Festival is a small team from Freising with a big idea: culture for everyone, no admission fee, no compromises. What began as an experiment in 2009 is now a permanent part of the city.

History

Since 2009. For Freising.

What began as an idea at the kitchen table has long since become a fixture in Freising. A look back.

2009

The founding

An idea at the kitchen table becomes reality. The first Uferlos Festival takes place in the Luitpoldanlage in Freising. Free admission from the very beginning.

2012–2015

Growth

The festival grows: more stages, more artists, more visitors. One weekend becomes ten days. Freising has found its festival.

2016–2019

A local fixture

Around 100,000 guests each year, more than 100 artists across six stages. Winter Wunder and other events beyond the summer season are added as well.

2020–2022

Pandemic pause

The festival has to pause. But the idea lives on. With Sommer Wunder, the cultural office and music school help make open-air culture possible.

2023

Uferlos returns

Uferlos returns. Experienced hands and new faces join forces, bringing fresh ideas and a proven heart. Bob Geldof & The Bobkatz as headliner.

2024

Non-profit status

The GmbH becomes Uferlos Kultur und Veranstaltungs gGmbH. Voodoo Jürgens, Die Sterne and Dreiviertelblut as headliners, a sold-out concert night. Every cent flows back into culture and community.

2026

Uferlos today

May 8 to 17 at the Luitpoldanlage. Ten days of music, art and connection. Free admission. As always.

Uferlos Festival

Welcome back

Finally, again

Dear people of Freising,

After a year's break, the time has finally come again, sometimes we can hardly believe it ourselves: Uferlos is returning to our cathedral city, to the Luitpoldanlage, to our shared outdoor living room.

We would like to thank everyone who made this new start possible. Without the support of our main sponsor, the City of Freising, especially Mayor emeritus Tobias Eschenbacher, the city council and the cultural department, Uferlos 2026 would not have been possible. We also thank our tent sponsors, Sparkasse Freising Moosburg and Freisinger Stadtwerke, as well as the many other supporters who accompany us on this journey.

We are especially grateful for the many contributors who see Uferlos as a project close to their hearts, who help shape it and want to be part of it all. You are not just part of it, you are the heart of this festival! A special mention goes to Vipo Maat: without your tireless efforts to build and sustain this important platform, none of us would be here now. Last but not least, our thanks go to our crowdfunding community: by the end of March, over 20,000 euros had already been raised. This helps us greatly to secure the project long-term and ensure that we never have to miss this special time in Freising's calendar again.

In turbulent times like these, the 'we' matters more than ever. That is why the 14th edition of the Uferlos Festival is all about togetherness: ten days, six stages, over 70 stalls, concerts, art and a program for everyone. And at the centre of it all: us.

From May 8 to 17, our gates open, we can hardly wait to welcome you all.

Freising, here we go!

Our values

What we stand for

Seven principles that define Uferlos.

Culture for everyone

No admission fee, no VIP areas. Whoever comes is welcome.

Community

Dozens of volunteers make the festival possible. Every year all over again.

Sustainability

100% green electricity from day one. Reusable systems, regional partners, organic options.

Openness

From pop to jazz, from literature to DJ nights. For every generation.

Non-profit

A gGmbH since 2024. No gain, no private profit. Every cent flows back into the festival.

Your drink funds culture

Uferlos sustains itself through drinks and food. No admission fee, just fair prices at the bar.

Profit is zero

No one earns money from this festival. Every surplus goes into the next edition.

About us

The team

Small at the core, big at heart.

At its core, Uferlos is a small team that plans, organizes and makes the festival possible all year round. During festival week, our team grows to dozens of volunteers who pitch in, build stages, welcome guests and make sure everything runs smoothly.

Without these people, there would be no Uferlos. Every single one of them helps make sure Freising gets to experience a special festival every year.

Dozens of volunteers. And everyone who shows up.

Uferlos does not live from the core team alone. It lives from the dozens of volunteers who build stages, pour drinks and keep everything running. And it lives from you: everyone who comes, celebrates, eats and drinks directly helps fund the next festival. Uferlos sustains itself through beverage sales, food concessions and our partners. No admission fee, no profit for individuals. Everything flows back into culture for Freising.

What we give back

Uferlos would be unthinkable without Freising. The city is not just our main supporter, it is the reason this festival exists. Together, we create a cultural offering that belongs to the whole region. For that, we are grateful.

Get involved

Uferlos is powered by people like you.

There is no Uferlos without the people who carry it. Whether you lend a hand, support us or take the stage, you make the difference. Here are three ways to be part of it.
